On August 20, Salesforce quietly shipped a feature that doesn't look like much at first glance. Slack Code — available free on every Slack plan — automatically corrals AI coding assistants like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Devin, and Codex into dedicated, self-archiving project channels.
It sounds like a minor workflow tweak. It's actually Salesforce turning Slack into the control layer for AI development work.
Instead of adding yet another developer tool to the stack, Slack is positioning itself as the meta-orchestrator: the place where humans and AI coders collaborate, and where every interaction between the two gets preserved in bounded, searchable channels. Each AI assistant becomes a persistent channel member. Each project gets its own sealed history of who asked what, and what the AI actually did.
This isn't about making Slack better at messaging. It's about making chat the system of record for AI-generated code.

The real question is whether other platforms follow suit. Microsoft Teams could do this tomorrow. So could GitLab, or Linear, or any other tool that sits between humans and their work. Whoever becomes the default coordination layer for AI labor wins a category that doesn't quite exist yet.
For now, Salesforce got there first. And they did it by giving it away.
